IRCC revises these pages, so confirm the current values there before you plan around a number. ## The PTE Core scores for CLB 7 IRCC's equivalency chart sets CLB 7 on PTE Core at 60 to 70 in listening, 60 to 68 in reading, 68 to 75 in speaking and 69 to 78 in writing. IRCC publishes PTE Core as a range per ability. The bottom of each range is the score that reaches CLB 7; anything inside the range stays CLB 7. The highest bar at CLB 7 is writing, at 69; the lowest is reading, at 60. Candidates who average the four miss this, because IRCC reads every ability on its own. Only PTE Core counts for Express Entry. PTE Academic is not on the accepted list. ## CLB 6, CLB 7 and CLB 8 on PTE Core, side by side One level down, CLB 6 on PTE Core needs 50 in listening, 51 in reading, 59 in speaking and 60 in writing. One level up, CLB 8 needs 71 in listening, 69 in reading, 76 in speaking and 79 in writing. Moving from CLB 7 to CLB 8 takes 11 points in listening, 9 points in reading, 8 points in speaking and 10 points in writing. The biggest step is listening, so that is usually the section to train first. ## How many CRS points is CLB 7 worth? As your first official language, each PTE Core ability at CLB 7 earns 17 CRS points without a spouse or common-law partner and 16 with one: 68 or 64 across the four, in a block that tops out at 136 and 128. The next 6 points per ability are cheapest in speaking, which needs only 8 points more on PTE Core to reach CLB 8; listening needs 11 points. A writing result just under 69 reads as CLB 6 and earns 9 instead of 17, which is why the weakest ability matters as much as the strongest. ## Where IRCC names CLB 7 as a minimum Federal Skilled Worker Program asks for CLB 7 in all four abilities. On PTE Core that is 60 listening and reading, 68 speaking, 69 writing. Canadian Experience Class, NOC TEER 0 or 1 asks for CLB 7. On PTE Core that is 60 listening and reading, 68 speaking, 69 writing. Each ability is checked against its own figure, so one result below the line fails the minimum however strong the other three are. ## What French adds to a CLB 7 PTE Core result With PTE Core at CLB 7 in all four abilities, NCLC 7 in all four French abilities would add 50 additional CRS points: the full French block, because your English already clears its CLB 5 condition. Compare that with PTE Core: lifting all four abilities from CLB 7 to CLB 8 takes 11 points in listening, 9 points in reading, 8 points in speaking and 10 points in writing, and is worth 24 first-language points without a spouse, less than the 50 the French block pays.
