# TCF and TEF Canada sample test, sat as series of ten

158 reading comprehension questions: 78 for the TCF Canada and 80 for the TEF Canada, sat as 8 series of 10 per exam, except the TCF's last series, which holds the 8 that are left. You answer a series with no correction in between, then your mark and the reasoning on every question you missed appear the moment you hand it in.

By [Adèle Sason](/about), Français Prep · Updated 7 October 2026

The questions come from the Français Prep course mock exams, written in the idiom of each exam rather than copied from any real paper. A mark here does not convert into a TEF or TCF score and is not an NCLC level: no official table converts a practice paper, and anyone offering you that equivalence invented it.

The most common thing candidates want is exercises with corrections, and the most common thing they get is exercises with an answer key. Those are not the same. A key tells you that the answer was C, which is useful exactly once. What transfers to the next paper is the reason: that the three wrong options reused the vocabulary of the document while the correct one rephrased it, or that the question turned on a single word like « sauf » that cancels everything before it.

So the reasoning is still the point, and it is still free. What has changed is when you get it. **Nothing tells you whether an answer was right while you are sitting the series**, because a correction that lands a second after you click is read as agreement rather than as information. You sit ten questions, commit to all ten, and the mark and the corrections arrive together when you hand it in.

One warning about how to use them when they land. Agreeing with an explanation feels like learning and usually is not. When you get one wrong, go back to the document and name the mistake you actually made: answered from general knowledge, matched a word instead of reading the sense, stopped at the first plausible option. The specific question will never appear again. The habit will appear on every page of the real paper.

When you want the pressure back rather than the reasoning, the same questions run as [a full timed paper](/tcf-tef-practice-test), which is the other half of the job.

Questions

## About the questions bank

### How is the bank organised?

As 8 series of 10 questions for each exam: 78 questions for the TCF Canada and 80 for the TEF Canada, 158 in total. You sit one series at a time, in the order the questions appear in the mock paper they came from. The TCF's last series holds eight rather than ten, because that is how many questions are left, and padding it with filler would be inventing exam material.

### Why does nothing tell me whether I was right?

Because recognising a correct answer feels exactly like knowing it, and is not the same thing. If the correction appears a second after you click, you read it as agreement rather than as information, and the next question starts from a false sense of how you are doing. Answering ten questions with nothing revealed is the only version of this that measures something. The corrections then arrive together, cold, when you can actually learn from them.

### Why do I need an account?

Two reasons, and one of them is ours. The honest one: an account keeps your answers and the series you have already sat, so progress survives closing the tab. The commercial one: it is also how we find out who is preparing, and some of those people become students. Nothing is paid at any point, there is no paid tier, and signing up takes an email or a Google account. The corrections are the full reasoning on every question you missed rather than a teaser.

### What do I see when I hand the series in?

Your mark out of ten, how many you left blank, and then every question you got wrong with the correct answer and the reasoning behind it: why the right option is right, and what the wrong one you picked was built to catch. Questions you got right are not explained, because you do not need them.

### Can I change an answer before I hand the series in?

Yes, up until you hand it in. Previous and Next move through the ten freely and clicking a different option replaces your choice, exactly as changing your mind on paper would. A question left blank scores the same as a wrong one, so the page tells you how many are still empty before you finish.

### How is this different from the timed practice test?

Same questions, different pressure. The practice test runs a whole paper against the sixty-minute clock, which is rehearsal. A series is ten questions untimed, which is study. Do the paper to find out where you lose marks, then sit the series that covers that kind of text.

### Can I use the TEF series if I am sitting the TCF?

Yes, and it is worth doing once you have finished your own exam's eight. The document types overlap heavily, both papers rise in difficulty the same way, and comprehension does not know which exam it is being tested by. What does not transfer is timing and question count, so use the other exam's series for practice and your own for rehearsal.

### Is there a listening bank too?

No, and we would rather say why than pad this page. An honest listening question needs audio played once at natural pace, which we cannot supply here without recording it. The course lessons cover listening with a protocol built on free authentic audio instead.
